This Year's Model Updates:

The base trim level has been dropped. The 2.7-liter V6 is now standard (the LX still gets the 3.5-liter V6), as is an automatic transmission. Also newly standard this year are four-wheel antilock brakes and traction control. Exterior changes include a new grille surround, side cladding, taillamps, tailgate handle, rear bumper design and alloy wheels. Inside, there is new seat fabric, an upgraded two-tone color scheme and a revised instrument cluster. A power driver seat is now standard on the LX, and a compass is included with the optional sunroof.

Pros:
  • Reasonable price, strong warranty, roomy interior, long list of standard features, solid construction, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the pump for a small car-based SUV, soft suspension limits handling ability.

  • Comfortable & practical, but gas hungry - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Up until buying my Santa Fe I had always driven the smaller cars (Honda Civic, Mazda Protege). Its a good vehicle & very comfortable inside, but I might end up selling it & going back to a sedan. I expected my gas mileage to go down with it being an SUV, but still thought Id at least average in the low to mid 20s with it being a 6 cylinder and not an 8 & not being that big. However Im averaging 17 to 20 miles to the gallon and thats even with driving very conservatively. The ride is smooth but I find myself being afraid of any sudden moves. Overall its not a bad vehicle but be ready to pay more at the pump if you get one.

I like the Santa Fe 2.7L V6 very much. It is relatively quiet and handles well on curves, and the mileage I get is 20-22 around town and 26-28 on the highway. No long trips as yet. The steering is a little too responsive if you take your eyes off the road to adjust the AC or heating, or radio.

I like the feel of the vehicle. I have a good view of the road and other cars near me. It steers responsively and can make a tight turn when you need to. The seats are comforable and there is plenty of leg room. Its peppy and can move out when you have to. The controls placement and interior design of compartments, etc. are great. We love it.

Its a great SUV, And you get a lot of luxury for little investment. I do not have a single complaint. I think it is easily one of the best kept seacrets in the SUV market.

  • Hyundai Got It Right - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

The car was presented at the dealership in flawless shape (except for a burnt out map light bulb). I have purchased new Toyotas and Hondas over the years and the fit and finish on my Santa Fe is just as good and the price cant compare. Thousands cheaper than the comparable Japanese models and a bit more stylish by my taste. The 3.5 liter engine has more than enough power and the ride is firm and comfortable. This car is the best in its size class.

Great car for the price. More bang for my bucks than the competition. Its been absolutely reliable. Not a thing to replace. OEM tires were decent. A bit much with interior noise.

Really fun to drive! Handles great in our Rocky Mountains, even in sever weather. Snow and ice is no problem and vehicle is extremly stable an easy to control. Shiftronic gear selection is great, used a lot in the mountains.

  • Disappointed at mileage - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

Seems like a pretty solid car and handles very nice. But I do not like where the heater and air conditioner controls are located. You have to take your eyes off the road to adjust because they are located so low in the compartment. For the size, the gas mileage is terrible.
